    Missouri Cannabis HR Working Group

    Wednesday June 4th 2025  10:00am - 12:00pm

Stoney Creek Conference Center - Independence MO

(just east of Kansas City) - Wood Room

This coming June 4th marks the one year anniversary of the MoCann HR Working Group. MoCann licensee members are again invited to have representation in this group both at the monthly virtual meetings and the upcoming in-person meeting planned for the morning after the Q2 meetup in KC.  This collaborative Human Resources group comprised of HR professionals working within licensed entities in the Missouri cannabis industry continues to meet virtually each month virtually and twice a year in person following the quarterly meetups.

As a HR professional working within a licensed group, your participation and insights are invaluable as we work together to navigate the unique HR landscape of the cannabis industry in Missouri. We are confident that your contributions will enrich our discussions and ultimately benefit our respective organizations.  While MoCann will be in attendance to support these discussions, the conversations will be led/moderated by peer HR professionals including Alice Moore - Proper and Marilyn Gleason - Beleaf.

Special Discussion for National Safety Month

    11:00am - 12:00pm

Moderator: Ernest Jamison, National Safety Manager for Good Day Farm

We are extending an additional invite to our Safety Leaders working within licensed operating groups here in Missouri for a special discussion in honor of National Safety Month.

Hear from Industry peers about organizational approaches to safety in the workplace. The cannabis industry is one of the fastest-growing, potentially high-profit industries. It is also one of the country’s most regulated industries. Even though each “cannabis” state has their own administrative, marketing, and finance regulations, the challenges of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) are all the same.

Learn about safety standards required from OSHA. The cannabis industry is not federally regulated. However, the OSHA mandate for all employers to provide workplaces free from recognized hazards that could cause harm or death to employees is still a requirement for all cannabis growing-manufacturing organizations. This includes implementing safety measures, providing training, and taking steps to prevent accidents and injuries, under The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSHA).

Examine and discuss best practices for work place safety. It is vital to be familiar with regulatory requirements and how they may can impact your operations. The goal of this EHS-HR group meet is simply to open the lines of communication and create a dialect for the MO Cannabis EHS Community to discuss areas including:

    • Hazard Communication
    • Respiratory Protection
    • Incident Prevention
    • Hearing Conservation
    • Emergency Action Plans
    • Incident Reporting & Workers Compensation

Please RSVP by May 23, 2025 to confirm your attendance and receive further details regarding the location and agenda for our inaugural meeting.

We look forward to connecting with you and building a strong network of HR professionals dedicated to advancing our industry.

  • Join us for a day-long, live, informational seminar to educate Missouri’s cannabis license holders see more

Throughout this workshop, CSQ aims to simplify Missouri’s otherwise complex regulations by introducing attendees to an arsenal of quality assurance tools, certifications, and training opportunities. Join us for a day-long, live, informational seminar to educate Missouri’s cannabis license holders about the state’s regulatory requirements to implement a Quality Management System (QMS) that meets established industry standards.

    This QMS Workshop will:

    1. Answer questions about what it means to ‘implement a QMS’ per state regulations.
    2. Debunk myths and misconceptions about Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
    3. Provide an overview of tools that can aid with compliance.
    4. Allow attendees to walk away with a Cannabis Safety 101 Course Certificate of Completion.

CSQ’s Cannabis Safety 101 Course ($49 value)outlines the principles of cannabis safety that are essential for ensuring that consumers receive safe cannabis products. By taking this course included in this workshop, attendees will learn about the hazards that lead to unsafe cannabis products, and how to adopt a preventive approach to safety hazards for both cannabis and hemp-cannabinoid operations – as opposed to a “wait and respond” approach.

Bringing Back The “Medical” In Marijuana:  A Wellness Consumer & Market Opportunity Discussion (4:30p - 6:30p)

Our Missouri medical cannabis industry was built on the therapeutic and medicinal value this amazing plant provided to Missouri patients.  Now that we as an industry have successfully implemented one of the strongest adult use markets in the US, we want to revisit opportunities to further expand our market by highlighting the overt value of a wellness minded industry.

Attracting and retaining a loyal, wellness-oriented consumer base, particularly aging populations with chronic conditions, may provide resilience against price compression, lack of differentiation and commoditization. In this session, expect to learn more about how wellness focused cannabis brands can win in a recreational market by:

    • Developing Targeted Medical Formulations: Instead of generic THC/CBD ratios, create products tailored for specific conditions, like neuropathic pain, inflammation, sleep disorders, and women’s health.
    • Investing in Research and Patient Trials: Small-scale studies can demonstrate product efficacy without requiring massive budgets. Even limited clinical data can set a brand apart.
    • Creating relevant retail spaces that highlight wellness, cannabis as medicine and applications/treatment options
    • Producing products and form factors that address non-pharmaceutical endorsed treatments or life enhancement needs
    • Building health provider relationships: Partnering with doctors, nurses, and patient advocacy groups creates credibility, trust, and referral networks that drive sales and brand loyalty.
    • Building customer relationships that matter, a volume of consumers are attracted to people, brands and retail settings that resonate with them, their needs and not price or potency
    • Outbound marketing and activation opportunities, engaging your target customer where they are (independent/assisted living facilities, country clubs and/or social clubs, etc)
    • Inviting and engaging mature customers, how are they different from your average consumer and what are they trying to accomplish?
    • Understanding wellness and medicinal customers are not as price sensitive
    • Educating and training your front line, ensuring staff can articulate how medical cannabis may work for consumers seeking a specific profile, form factor, treatment approach

Moderated by Mitch Meyers - Partner Beleaf Medical and Swade Cannabis

    Industry Panelists:

    • Michael Bronfein - Curio Wellness
    • Dr. Trish Hurford MD - Hurford Interventional Pain*Orthopedics*Rehab

    • Maddi Pearcy - Heartland Holistics
