Evaluation
Each product submitted to the MJU MoCann Cup undergoes a rigorous, standards-based evaluation conducted by a minimum of three (3) Level 2 Certified Ganjiers. All products are reviewed independently to ensure objectivity and consistency across scoring. Drawing from a sommelier-level approach to cannabis assessment, Ganjiers evaluate each entry using a multi-sensory framework that includes visual inspection, aroma and terpene profile, flavor, and overall product experience. This structured methodology ensures that every product is judged against a uniform set of criteria, reinforcing the integrity and credibility of the competition.
Quality control is a critical component of the evaluation process. Any product that, upon visual inspection, is found to contain defects—such as mold, mildew, pests, or other contaminants—may be disqualified from judging to uphold the highest standards of consumer safety and product excellence. While disqualified entries will not be publicly disclosed, detailed feedback will be provided directly to the entrant to support continuous improvement. Please note that no refunds will be issued for products that are not submitted, fail to meet submission requirements, or are disqualified during the evaluation process.

While we recognize the challenges around categorizing flower as indica, sativa, or hybrid, we know this is the predominantly used sub-segmentation for flower. In addition to awards for each strain category, we will also present awards based on the four categories that have been reconfirmed through scientific scrutiny (University of Southern California study) as the primary aroma categories identified in cannabis flower by cannabis consumers.
